…DB2 certification preparation!

Im Zuge meiner Vorbereitungen (bzw. Lern-Eskapaten) fuer die anstehende IBM DB2 Zertifikatspruefung am Mittwoch, bin ich wohl oder uebel genoetigt, wertvolle IBM Papers zu lesen.
Bereits die einfuehrenden Kapitel beeindruckten an mancher Stelle durch den ein oder anderen beabsichtigten unerwarteten Lacher. Das moechte ich der Leserschaft natuerlich nicht vorenthalten:

Los geht es mit ein paar einfuehrenden Worten ueber die stinknormale Kommandozeileneingabe von DB2 (Syntax zu kennen, scheint fuer DBAs kein erstrebenswertes Ziel mehr zu sein

The DB2 Command Line Processor (DB2 CLP) [...] is an application you can use to run DB2 commands, operating system commands, or SQL statements. This tool can be a somewhat cryptic method of invoking DB2 commands.

Finde den Fehler:

DB2 WSUE can support up to four-way SMP servers on UNIX- or Intel-based equipment.

Weiterhin hat man sich bei IBM etwas ganz besonderes einfallen lassen, um den Anwender DBA ein wenig zu verwirren:

To turn an option off, either surround the option letter with minus signs (-c-) or prefix it with a plus sign (+). Read the last two sentences again, because this can get confusing.

Oh, really? Im weiteren kommentiert der Autor wie folgt:

No, that isn’t very intuitive (hey, I didn’t write the code).

Na dann ist ja alles klar

Im weiteren Verlauf wird klar, dass man bei der Entwicklung der vorgestellten tools nichts dem Zufall ueberlassen hat. Hier hat man sich wirklich versucht in den DBA hineinzuversetzen – respekt!

[...] For this reason, we’ll refer to two different processors in DB2: the DB2 Command Line Processor (DB2 CLP) and the DB2 Command Window (DB2 CW). You are likely to refer to them by the same name, however, and with good reason: they have the same icon in the Windows Start Menu[...]

Und auch an den Entwickler wurde gedacht:

[...] As a result, developers can build DB2 business logic without leaving their favorite IDE — a feature they’ll love!

They will – that’s for sure

Und zu guter Letzt mein absoluter Favorit:

If a tool generates SQL statements or DB2 commands, then the Show SQL [...] button will show the actual statement or command that DB2 will use to perform the task you’ve requested. [...] you can just use it to get a better idea of what is happening behind the interface (for all you UNIX folks who care about that sort of stuff).
